J.R. Smith turned from villain to Warriors‘ fan favorite thanks to his memorable blunder.

Unfortunately for the Cleveland Cavaliers Colts Game Jerseys , Smith was a nonfactor Sunday night after his late-game mistake in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

After he inexplicably dribbled out the clock at the end of regulation in a tied game, Smith was basically a nonfactor on a night LeBron James needed all the help he could get to keep up with Stephen Curry and the Warriors.

Smith made just 2 of 9 shots and didn’t make a single basket after the first quarter as the Cavaliers fell into an 0-2 series hole after a 122-103 defeat.

”Terrible,” Smith said of his performance. ”I have to shoot the ball better. I have to defend better.”

The game started with Smith getting loud cheers from the Warriors fans, who booed him mercilessly in Game 1 after Smith slipped and fell into Klay Thompson’s leg Packers Game Jerseys , sending the Warriors guard to the locker room briefly with an injury.

That sarcastic support continued all game long, with Smith getting serenaded with chants of ”M-V-P! M-V-P!” on a trip to the foul line in the first quarter.

”I’m always a person the fans like to talk to and heckle,” Smith said. ”I like it. I’d rather they do that than not acknowledge me at all. I appreciate that.”

Smith was a prominent figure in Game 1 for all the wrong reasons. He grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw by George Hill in the final seconds of regulation with the game tied. Smith then dribbled toward midcourt as if he was running out the clock and thinking Cleveland had the lead. The Cavs couldn’t get off a shot and lost in overtime.

James and coach Tyronn Lue raved about Smith’s ability to bounce back from tough moments but that didn’t happen Sunday.

”Not too much affects JR. I don’t think so,” Lue said. ”He made shots. He had some good looks he didn’t make DJ Chark Jersey Jaguars , but throughout the course of the game I don’t he think he really got shots in a row to kind of get into a rhythm. So that was kind of tough on him. But we have confidence in JR, and he’s just got to continue taking his shots.”

The Cavs will need much more from Smith when the series shifts to Cleveland for Game 3 on Wednesday night if they are going to match their comeback from an 0-2 deficit that they accomplished in beating the Warriors for the title two years ago and in the Eastern Conference finals last month against Boston.

James was his typical brilliant self but was unable to match the 51-point scoring he had in the opener as the Warriors made a stronger effort to pick him up quicker to make him work for everything.

James, who played with a bloodshot left eye after getting poked by Draymond Green in Game 1, finished with 29 points Youth Brandon Parker Jersey , 13 assists and nine rebounds. He made 10 of 20 shots from the field but was not nearly as efficient as he was the series opener.

”The eye has looked a lot better,” James said. ”My daughter doesn’t like the way I look right now. Yeah, she didn’t like the FaceTime that we had earlier. She was a little weirded out about it. But I’ll be fine. So everything’s good.”

The Cavs once again failed to take advantage of good looks from 3-point range that are apt to come with all the attention Golden State pays to James. They shot just 9 for 27 from long range and are at 35 percent for the series, a number that will need to improve if Cleveland wants to reverse the tide of the finals.

Smith has been one of the Cavs best options from 3-point range Denzel Ward Jersey Browns , but he was just 1 for 4 in this game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs know they’ve just completed the best statistical season in franchise history.

And Frederik Andersen knows he now holds the team’s all-time record for goalie wins in a season.

What remains a mystery for the Leafs is their first-round playoff opponent.

Andersen made 31 saves to pick up his 38th victory of the season Saturday and Toronto closed out its schedule by defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-2.

The Leafs finished with a club-record 105 points – bettering the 103 earned in the pre-lockout 2003-04 season before the shootout was introduced to break ties – but will have to wait until the Boston Bruins play the Florida Panthers on Sunday to see where they open their next playoff chapter.

A win for the Bruins over the Panthers Cheap Mark Walton Jersey , who have been eliminated from postseason contention, would see Boston move into first in the Atlantic Division and set up a meeting between Tampa Bay and Toronto.

A victory in regulation for the Panthers, meanwhile, would see the Leafs and Bruins square off.

Asked if he would be watching Sunday’s finale, a makeup game after Boston and Florida were snowed out in January Cheap Cassius Marsh Jersey , Andersen indicated he has other plans.

”No,” he said. ”I’m going to watch the Masters.”

Auston Matthews scored his 34th goal of the season to match his jersey number and added an assist for Toronto (49-26-7), which also set club records for overall victories and home wins (29).

Zach Hyman, Nazem Kadri and Patrick Marleau had the other goals for the Leafs, who are going to the playoffs for the second consecutive spring. Jake Gardiner added two assists.

Andersen’s 37 victories coming in saw him sit tied with Ed Belfour (2002-03) and Andrew Raycroft (2006-07) for the most by a Toronto goalie in a season.

Now he sits alone in first.

”It’s fun when you set goals at the beginning of the year and then you achieve some of them Authentic JK Scott Jersey ,” Andersen said. ”It goes without saying that there are bigger goals.”

Leafs coach Mike Babcock was pleased to see his team come through for its goalie in a game that didn’t mean anything in the standings.

”He’s been a huge part of our team,” Babcock said. ”That record is a special, special thing.”

Daniel Carr and Jeff Petry scored for Montreal (29-40-13). Carey Price stopped 26 shots for the visitors as the Canadiens wrapped up a disappointing season.

The players observed a moment of silence before the game to honor the victims of Friday’s horrific crash in Saskatchewan that saw a tractor-trailer collide with a bus carrying a junior hockey team, killing 15 people and injuring 14 others.

The Leafs and Canadiens also sported Broncos decals on their helmets.

Tied 1-1 through 40 minutes, Hyman chipped a rebound past Price just 37 seconds into the third for his 15th goal and 40th point of the season after Matthews took the initial shot.

Andersen made a good stop on Brendan Gallagher’s one-timer with four minutes to go Cheap Logan Woodside Jersey , before the Leafs went to the power play with 3:45 left when Michael McCarron hacked Matthews to the ice with the center bearing down on what could have been his 35th goal.

But Kadri wouldn’t be denied with 2:50 left when he backhanded his 32nd over Price before Petry then scored his 12th with 40.2 seconds left in regulation.

Marleau put things to bed with his 27th on a Price mistake with 9.8 seconds still on the clock as the Canadiens limped to the finish line after topping the Atlantic with 103 points last season.

”We’re still playing the game we love,” Gallagher said. ”But the games haven’t been meaningful.

”Just never want to feel this (way) or go through this ever again.”

Down 1-0 after Matthews extended his point streak to 10 games – he now has seven goals and seven assists over that span – late in the first, the Canadiens came close when Andersen denied Gallagher twice on a power play in the second.

”He’s been unbelievable for us, probably our best player all year,” Matthews said the Leafs goalie. ”He’s kept us in games Luis Severino Jersey , won us games all throughout the year and been a brick wall.”

Montreal got even with 3:56 left in the second when Carr scored his sixth on a rebound.

Matthews struck on the power play with 1:55 left in the first when William Nylander wheeled down from the point, froze Price and delivered a sweet cross-ice feed for a wide-open net to get the ball rolling on a milestone night.

Now all the Leafs can do is sit and wait to find out where they’ll open the playoffs next week as the Atlantic’s No. 3 seed – either Boston or Tampa.

”We don’t know who we’re playing,” Babcock said. ”Both teams are very good hockey clubs.

”We’re in for a great test and it should be a lot of fun.”

leader on all of these teams

Messagepar chenjian20 » Mar 24 Juil 2018, 04:20

In a story April 3 about NHL player Eric Staal Eduardo Escobar Jersey , The Associated Press misidentified the location of his Canadian hometown. Thunder Bay is located in Ontario.

A corrected version of the story is below:

With 40 goals for playoffs-bound Wild, Staal has right fit

With 40 goals for playoffs-bound Wild, Staal has found right place for career resurgence

By DAVE CAMPBELL

AP Sports Writer

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Eric Staal was coming off his least productive NHL season since he was a teenage rookie with Carolina when Minnesota took a flier on him two summers ago to add some depth at center.

The three-year contract was modest for a player with Staal’s ability and accomplishments. The expectations were, too. Three consecutive seasons of decline in points per game, after all, don’t provide a hint that the scoring touch or passing knack is primed for resurgence.

Bruce Boudreau could see the rebound potential, though. His first day of training camp with the Wild happened to be Staal’s practice debut with his new club, and a strong impression was made on the new head coach.

”I said, `You know what? Everybody was wrong,”’ Boudreau said. ”Because he did the skate test on the very first day, and he blew everybody out of the water. So I said to the staff Steve Carlton Jersey , `He should be able to play for us.”’

Staal has done much more for the Wild than simply prove he can keep up and stabilize a key position with some savviness and leadership. Nobody on the team has scored more since he arrived, and with 40 goals this season he’s tied for sixth in the league through Monday’s games.

”I never thought a specific number was a goal. I don’t ever usually think like that,” Staal said. ”Once you start a season, it can go a lot of different ways, but once the puck starts hitting the back of the net and you’re gaining confidence that way, you want to hold on to it as long as you can and accumulate as much as you can to help your team win.”

Staal became just the second player in NHL history, joining Gordie Howe, to record a 40-goal season at least nine years apart with none in between. Slumps can factor into that, but so does dedication.

”Look, he’s won a Stanley Cup. He’s won an Olympic medal. He’s got all the money that he’s ever going to need,” Boudreau said. ”But when he came here he wanted to prove to the world that he’s still a really good player, and to me he has.”

The lanky 33-year-old with the left-handed shot has been a big reason why the Wild Authentic Thomas Rawls Jersey , despite some rough patches of the schedule and significant injury absences by several of their best skaters, have clinched a spot in the playoffs for the sixth straight season.

”You want that, especially as a player who’s in the second half of his career. You want to make sure you’re in a spot to try to win again, and coming here I felt gave me that chance,” said Staal, the second overall pick in the 2003 draft who won the Stanley Cup in 2006 at age 21 but only returned to the playoffs once more with the Hurricanes. ”We’ve still got some work to do here, but hopefully we can finish strong.”

Staal only has one goal-less stretch on his ledger longer than four games in a row, when he played six consecutive contests without scoring from Jan. 9-22. He still contributed four assists over that span. Not coincidentally, the Wild have only one losing streak larger than two. They dropped three in a row from Nov. 4-8.

”He’s a guy we’ve definitely looked to to help lead us,” said left wing Jason Zucker, one of the many linemates Staal has saddled up to this season – without, Boudreau said beamingly Danny Salazar Jersey , a single complaint.

Durability has been one crucial component of his value, of course. Staal has yet to miss a game since signing the $10.5 million deal on July 1, 2016. The emotional steadiness he has contributed can’t be overlooked, either.

”He’s been through the best of teams. He’s been through the worst of teams. He’s been the leader on all of these teams,” Boudreau said. ”He’s had to make sure he’s the steady one, because if he gets too high, maybe the rest of the group gets too high. If he was one to get too low, maybe everybody else would follow his lead.”

The Wild actually left Staal exposed in the expansion draft, banking on his age being less attractive to the Vegas Golden Knights. His salary cap hit is only the ninth-highest on the roster.

”If he was playing in Toronto, he’d be up for the MVP,” Boudreau said.

Settling in Minnesota was more than satisfying for Staal, with the perennial postseason opportunities and the relative proximity to his hometown of Thunder Bay J. T. Realmuto Jersey , Ontario, about a six-hour drive away. He and his wife, Tanya, have been able to raise sons Parker, Levi and Finley, in a similar northern culture and climate that he was raised in, delighting in seeing the boys at 8, 6 and 3 years old take to the local hockey rinks or eagerly hop on their sleds after the latest snowfall.

”All that stuff I grew up doing and loving, and now I’m kind of living it back through them,” Staal said. ”It’s definitely made it a ton of fun.”

reasonable to think

Messagepar chenjian20 » Mar 24 Juil 2018, 04:48

With the NBA playoffs starting Saturday Kerry Wood Jersey , here are 10 things to know:

LEBRON’S STREAK

Pacers fans, avert your eyes.

LeBron James hasn’t experienced losing a first-round game in nearly six years.

James’ teams have won 21 consecutive opening-round contests, a streak that started in Game 5 of the Miami-New York series in 2012. Combining his Cleveland and Miami years, James’ teams have won 46 of their last 51 first-round games.

James and the Cavs play Indiana in the first round this season.

MORE LEBRON

James could set a slew of NBA records in these playoffs.

He’s already the all-time postseason leader in points, is seven steals from passing Scottie Pippen (395) for the playoff record in that department, is four shots from passing Kobe Bryant (4,499) for another career postseason mark.

Depending on how long Cleveland’s postseason lasts, James also has a shot at passing Ray Allen (385) for career postseason 3-pointers; he’s 55 shy of taking over the No. 1 spot there. And if the Cavs make a deep run James could also catch Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (2,356) for most field goals.

KERR BATTLE

Golden State coach Steve Kerr is estranged from his son.

Temporarily.

Nick Kerr works for the San Antonio Spurs – the Warriors‘ opponent in a Western Conference first round series. This has long been a source of great amusement for Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who coached Steve Kerr as a player and remains close with him now. Popovich has said that Nick Kerr is the subject of additional security screenings at work, just to ensure he’s not a spy for the Warriors. (No, Pop wasn’t serious.)

Steve Kerr says he and his son are ”recusing ourselves” from family interaction during the series.

”I think they already confiscated Nick’s phone Scott Schebler Jersey ,” he said.

SO CLOSE …

You have to feel for Omri Casspi and DeMarcus Cousins.

No active players have appeared in more regular-season games without any getting any postseason run than Casspi and Cousins. Casspi has played in 552 games, Cousins 535. And both were right on the cusp of ending their droughts this year; Casspi was waived by Golden State because it needed a roster spot once he hurt his ankle, and Cousins tore his Achilles’ to end his season with New Orleans.

Tom Van Arsdale (929) is the record-holder for most regular-season games without seeing postseason play, followed by Otto Moore (682), Nate Williams (642), Sebastian Telfair (564), then Casspi and Cousins.

GLOBAL GAME

These NBA playoffs will be more global than ever.

A record 62 international players, from a record 33 countries, are headed to the postseason. Every playoff team has at least one international player on its roster, with Utah and Philadelphia both featuring seven and Boston, Toronto and San Antonio six each.

France and Australia lead the way in international representation in these playoffs, with seven players from each nation making it to the second season. Canada and Spain both have four.

STREAKING SPURS

This wasn’t San Antonio’s best season; the Spurs got ”only” the seventh seed in the West.

But their streak lives.

This is the 21st consecutive season the Spurs have made the playoffs Ben Gamel Jersey , one shy of matching Philadelphia for the longest NBA run.

To put their current streak in perspective, the soonest any other NBA club will be able to say that it has a 21-season postseason streak will be 2033.

Golden State and Houston have the second-longest active postseason streaks, at six. Portland and Toronto have been to five in a row, and four teams in this postseason – Miami, Minnesota, Philadelphia and New Orleans – didn’t qualify for the playoffs a year ago.

MONEY MATTERS

Portland and Philadelphia have already won a little extra money. By winning on the season’s final night to ensure each finished alone in third in their respective conferences, the Trail Blazers and 76ers picked up another $64,842 from the NBA’s record $20 million playoff pool this season.

Playoff teams split payouts from the pool, often toward bonuses for players and staff.

Houston is assured $1,380,065 from the pool so far. Toronto is assured $803,222 while Boston and Golden State are up to $704 Josh Tomlin Jersey ,169. Every playoff team will receive at least $298,485 – and the payouts keep rising as teams keep advancing.

The NBA champion will claim at least $4,782,438; the runner-up, at least $3,587,489.

START FAST

Of the 15 series played in the 2017 postseason, Game 1 winners ultimately won the best-of-seven 12 times. That 80 percent clip is consistent with the league norm.

Since the 1983-84 season, winners of Game 1 have gone on to win the series 79 percent of the time. But that guarantees nothing – over the last seven years, four teams have lost Game 1 of the NBA Finals and gone on to win the championship anyway.

DEFEND HOME COURT

Home-court ”advantage” really didn’t exist in the 2017 playoffs.

Road teams won 43 percent of the postseason games played last year, and it’s reasonable to think such a success rate might be in play again this year. The 16 teams in these playoffs combined to win 351 games on the road in the regular season, or 54 percent.

Ordinarily Tyler Naquin Jersey , road teams win playoff games about 35 percent of the time.

FINALLY, MINNESOTA

The Timberwolves are in the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

During that 14-year drought, the franchise had nine different coaches, used 131 different players, 92 different starters, took 93,776 field-goal attempts and . Adidas Logan Couture Jersey , Womens Trent Murphy Jersey , Womens Kemoko Turay Jersey , Womens Billy Price Jersey ,

Brooks Orpik went 824 days between goals before scoring the winner in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

In that span Authentic Ryan Jensen Jersey , the bruising defenseman blocked 446 shots and dished out even more hits. That won’t make him look more valuable on the stat sheet but certainly builds up respect among Washington Capitals teammates.

”He plays extremely hard,” forward Tom Wilson said. ”They don’t make `em like Brooks Orpik anymore.”

They really don’t.

As the NHL shifts toward speed and skill and away from size and physicality, defensemen like Orpik and Deryk Engelland of the Vegas Golden Knights are becoming rare species in hockey. Mobile puck-movers like Erik Karlsson are prized and behemoths like Hal Gill are gone.

And yet Orpik and Engelland have helped their teams reach the Stanley Cup Final and shown there’s still value in having a big defensive defenseman along for the ride – especially this time of year.

”In the playoffs, teams get to the net a lot harder,” Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. ”Everybody’s jamming things at the net and everybody’s getting numbers to the net and trying to create chaos around them. Sometimes those stay-at-home guys are very valuable. They can box you out, they can protect your goaltender in terms of not have to have second and third shots, those type of things. So they’re quite valuable in series where there’s a lot of net pressure and a lot of low play.”

Analytics don’t tell that story. Defensemen like Orpik routinely start in the defensive zone and are placed in positions to be on the ice for more shots against than shots for Cheap Sebastian Janikowski Jersey , so the numbers aren’t pretty.

Orpik has the eighth-worst Corsi percentage – a measure of shot attempts that simulates puck possession stats – among defensemen to play in at least 10 playoff games. Yet he has been incredibly effective at age 37 by clearing space in front of the net, delivering hits and clearing the puck out of the defensive zone.

”I know Brooksie from Pittsburgh and he stays in tremendous shape,” Engelland said. ”You try not to have guys standing around in front of the net too much and give your goalie some room. He’s a physical presence back there and maybe gives guys a second less to think with the puck, I guess you could say, and maybe rush a play or something if they don’t want to get hit. It’s always good to have that on the back end.”

Orpik scored the Game 2 winner – his first goal of any kind since Feb. 26, 2016 and first in the playoffs with the Capitals – and didn’t even remember celebrating. He’s not known for scoring, which made Washington’s T.J. Oshie all the more excited for Orpik putting the puck in the net.

”I haven’t yelled that loud for someone to score a goal since (Alex Ovechkin) scored one of his milestones Cheap Avonte Maddox Jersey ,” Oshie said. ”To see him get rewarded with a goal at a big time, it makes me feel good.”

Washington goaltender Braden Holtby said defensemen like Orpik are usually his favorite players because of what they do in front of the net. Gifted two-way defensemen like the Capitals’ John Carlson and Golden Knights’ Nate Schmidt find a way to do a little bit of everything, but they don’t have the size and strength of the 6-foot-3, 217-pound Orpik, who knows what his job is.

”I don’t think necessarily you want to change a lot,” Orpik said. ”I think if you try to get six defensemen that all play the exact same way, in my opinion you’re not going to be a very balanced team or you’re not going to go very far. You try to do what you’ve always done Ted Williams Jersey , not just with the way the game has changed. I think as you get older too if you don’t change certain things like the way you train or the way you play, you’re going to get pushed out, so you have to be able to adapt.”

Maybe a decade from now there will be less of an emphasis on hulking defensemen hired to hit more than score. But Orpik and Engelland still represent the kind of throwback players teammates want to have around.

”They compete, they make it hard on guys in front of the net,” Holtby said. ”They’re always thinking defensively with how they can help the team that way.”

Off the ice, there’s more players like Orpik and Engelland can do. Schmidt, who broke into the NHL as Orpik’s teammate in Washington Authentic Courtland Sutton Jersey , said Engelland has helped young Shea Theodore develop.

”They help guys on the mental aspect of things more than anything,” Schmidt said. ”I think that’s where they really come into play. That really translates to guys being able to flourish on the ice.”

Orpik has had the same impact on defensive partner Christian Djoos, who has been stable during this playoff run. Then there’s the importance Orpik has as an alternate captain and leader in the Capitals’ locker room in his fourth season with the team.

”The amount of leadership, the amount of everything that Brooks Orpik brings to this team, you can’t describe it,” Wilson said. ”We’re pretty privileged to have him around. He’s a rock back there.”

Brent Suter used his bat and left arm to beat the Philadelphia Phillies.

Suter drove in two runs and pitched a career-high seven innings Gleyber Torres Jersey , Christian Yelich, Hernan Perez and Jesus Aguilar homered and the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers beat Jake Arrieta and the Phillies 13-2 on Friday night.

Suter (7-4) allowed one run on six hits to win his fifth start in the last six, including a 12-3 victory over the Phillies six days ago. The lanky left-hander tossed a career-high 105 pitches and pushed the Brewers to 43-27, the best record in the NL.

”He always gives 100 percent when he pitches, and we support him,” Perez said. ”Sometimes, we need that nine holes to get a hit. Tonight Chad Kuhl Jersey , (Suter) did that.”

Suter went 2 for 2, scored twice and got hit by a pitch in his 16th appearance and 13th start. The team originally thought Suter might start the season in the bullpen, but that’s not been the case lately.

Milwaukee has scored 40 runs against the Phillies in four games, including 27 in three at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia has 13 in that span.

Arrieta (5-5) came in 3-0 with a 2.03 ERA in five career starts at Miller Park, but the Brewers snapped that streak by reaching him for eight runs – four earned – on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one.

”Jake did not have his fastball command, and we didn’t play good defense behind him,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said. ”That was the story of the game today.”

Arrieta put the blame on his shoulders Authentic Preston Brown Jersey , ignoring the season high-tying four errors.

”I singlehandedly lost us the game,” he said. ”I put up a 5 spot in the second inning. It wasn’t because of the defense, really. ”

Philadelphia also had four errors on March 31 at Atlanta.

Suter got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second. Shortstop Scott Kingery misplayed Lorenzo Cain’s liner for two more runs. Aguilar added a sacrifice fly and Cain scored on a wild pitch.

The Brewers chased Arrieta in the fourth, keeping him winless in three starts in June.

Suter reached on a fielding error by left fielder Rhys Hoskins and scored on Cain’s double. Yelich hit the first pitch for his ninth home run of the season.

Perez started the sixth by homering off reliever Mark Leiter Jr. Suter sliced an opposite-field base hit for his second RBI in the game.

Cesar Hernandez went 3 for 3 with an RBI double in the sixth. Odubel Herrera hit a solo homer in the ninth.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Phillies: RHP Pat Neshek (right shoulder strain) threw and ran some sprints in preparation for throwing a bullpen session on Sunday. RHP Jerad Eickhoff (right lat strain) threw Friday and should throw another bullpen on Tuesday.

Brewers: 2B Jonathan Villar missed his second consecutive game with a calf injury. He left Tuesday’s 4-0 win over the Chicago Cubs after legging out an infield single in the eighth inning.

LEARN FROM ERRORS

Kapler believes in Kingery, despite his costly error.

”At the end of the day, do we think that he will be one of our better players for many, many years to come in part because of this experience?” Kapler said. ”The answer is yes.”

Kingery has six errors in 63 games so far this season.

”Right now Chris Young Jersey , we feel like Scottie is developing very well and becoming a much better shortstop,” Kapler said.

A DOZEN, PLEASE

The Brewers are the first team to score at least 12 runs three times in a season against the Phillies since the 1968 Cincinnati Reds.

POSITION-PLAYING PITCHER

Philadelphia infielder Jesmuel Valentin pitched the eighth and surrendered Aguilar’s two-run homer and Manny Pina‘ run-scoring grounder. It was his first pitching appearance and second of the season for the Phillies, who used Pedro Florimon on May 18 at St. Louis.

”This is our way of saying tomorrow is important, too,” Kapler said. ”The next day is important, too. We’re going to preserve our guys in our bullpen.”

UP NEXT

Phillies: RHP Zach Eflin (3-2 Jose Bautista Jersey , 3.63 ERA) makes his second consecutive start against the Brewers. He beat them 4-3 on June 10, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings and matching his season high with nine strikeouts.

Brewers: RHP Junior Guerra (3-4, 2.71 ERA) makes his 13th start and first against the Phillies this season. He is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA in two career starts against Philadelphia at Citizens Bank park.

Nicklas Backstrom scored his second goal of the game 11:53 into overtime to give the Washington Capitals a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday and a 3-2 lead in the first-round playoff series.

Braden Holtby made 16 of his 39 saves in the third period to help Washington get to overtime. Four of five games between the teams have gone past regulation making fatigue a factor for Game 6 Monday night in Columbus.

Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie scored along with Backstrom in regulation for the Capitals Carl Yastrzemski Jersey , who became the first home team this series to win a home game. Holtby has been in net for Washington’s three consecutive victories after replacing Philipp Grubauer in Game 2, stopping 102 of 108 shots to turn the tide.

Fellow Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky allowed a soft goal to Kuznetsov as one of his four on 29 shots in the loss. Matt Calvert scored short-handed and on a breakaway and Oliver Bjorkstrand had a deflection goal for Columbus.

BOSTON (AP) – Tyler Bozak and James van Riemsdyk scored 1:19 apart in the second period Cheap Mark Andrews Jersey , and then Toronto killed off a 5-on-3 and three more power plays in a row to beat Boston and avoid elimination.

Connor Brown and Andreas Johnsson each scored his first career playoff goal in the first period, and the Maple Leafs took a 4-1 lead to chase Tuukka Rask in the second. Toronto also led 4-1 in Game 7 of the teams’ 2013 playoff series before the Bruins won in overtime en route to their second Stanley Cup final berth in two years. This time, Boston cut the deficit to one goal but the Leafs held on.

and the Giants were in third

Messagepar chenjian20 » Mar 24 Juil 2018, 08:43

LOS ANGELES — The third start of Madison Bumgarner’s return to the San Francisco Giants‘ rotation after a broken finger will take the left-hander to a mound where he knows success.

Bumgarner will square off with Dodgers left-hander Alex Wood in the middle game of a three-game series on Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

It is a venue Bumgarner knows well Ricky Vaughn Jersey , having pitched there 18 times, 17 of which have been starts. He has a career 2.31 ERA in L.A. and gave up just one run in two starts in the Dodgers’ home park last season.

Add in the fact that the rivalry game will be televised nationally and all the elements to shine appear to be in place for Bumgarner (0-1, 4.76 ERA), who showed his feisty side in an outing earlier this week at Miami when he was ejected upon departing the game.

“My stuff is good enough to get people out right now; I’ve just got to execute,” Bumgarner told mlb.com after he was ejected for giving a piece of his mind to home-plate umpire Jeremie Rehak.

The mild-mannered Wood (1-5, 4.43) might be ready to show an edgier side as well. The left-hander has given up a combined 15 runs (13 earned) in his last three starts and has pitched just 11 innings in those outings.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has already been asked if Wood is in danger of losing his starting spot Authentic Ito Smith Jersey , but he remains confident in the All-Star from a year ago. But left-hander Rich Hill (blister) looks close to a return from the disabled list after a solid minor league rehab start and could possibly force Wood from the rotation.

To Wood’s credit, he has remained confident, not sounding like a pitcher who needs to prove himself against the Giants on Saturday.

“There’s a lot of baseball left to be played,” Wood said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I can promise you that, when we get down that stretch Mike Montgomery Jersey , I’ll be playing my best baseball of the year.”

As a team, the Dodgers (36-32) are doing just that. For a month, the defending National League champions have looked more like the team that roared into the 2017 World Series, only to lose in seven games to the Houston Astros.

The Dodgers will enter Saturday having won 10 of their 12 games in June while posting a 20-6 record since May 17. They hit two more home runs Friday and now have 32 in June, by far the most in baseball during the month. They lead the NL with 88 home runs this season.

When that 20-6 run began, the Dodgers were in fourth place in the NL West Authentic M.J. Stewart Jersey , eight games back, and the Giants were in third place, and four games back.

After the Dodgers’ 3-2 victory over the Giants on Friday, L.A. was in second place, 2 1/2 games back, and the Giants (34-36) were in fourth place Ryan Carpenter Jersey , 5 1/2 games back and just a half game in front of the last-place San Diego Padres.

Pablo Sandoval homered Friday night for the Giants, who fell to 3-5 on their three-city, 10-game road trip.

three-game set against

Messagepar chenjian20 » Mar 24 Juil 2018, 09:07

A teenager among men Matt Szczur Jersey , Juan Soto has impressed his teammates on the Washington Nationals with his maturity and, even more so, his potent bat.

Soto hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning, and Washington beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 Thursday night in the deciding matchup of a three-game interleague series between neighboring rivals.

Soto, a 19-year-old rookie, is batting .326 with 16 RBIs in 28 games. Starting in the cleanup spot for the first time, he drew a walk and delivered the game’s pivotal hit.

”I think we’re all amazed every single day,” Washington ace Max Scherzer said. ”He puts together great ABs. He has antics and has some flair. He’s a great young player. He’s just enjoying himself.”

Bryce Harper led off the eighth with a double off Mychal Givens (0-4) and Trea Turner followed with a single. After Anthony Rendon struck out Cheap Courtland Sutton Jersey , Soto hit a liner into the gap in left-center.

”He’s got unbelievable poise,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said of Soto. ”No matter what the situation is, he goes out there with a game plan.”

Whatever that plan is, it’s effective.

”I just try to be focused and keep working,” Soto said.

Rendon homered for the Nationals, who received seven strong innings from Scherzer and flawless work from their bullpen.

Newcomer Kelvin Herrera (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and Sean Doolittle got three straight outs for his 20th save in 21 tries.

Seeking to end a rare run of two straight losses, Scherzer left a tied game after allowing two runs – both on solo homers – and striking out nine.

Afterward, the right-hander heaped praise upon Soto for the manner in which he’s adapted to playing in the big leagues.

”He has a great feel for the strike zone Matt Belisle Jersey ,” Scherzer said. ”To have that type of eye, it’s remarkable for him to be able to do that at this time and this age and this level.”

Activated from the 60-day disabled list before the game, Colby Rasmus homered for the Orioles in his first at-bat since April 6.

”Me and Max, we go way back, so I felt real good,” said Rasmus, who had been sidelined with a hip injury.

In addition, Rasmus made an outstanding throw from right field to the plate Authentic Cassius Marsh Jersey , nailing Wilmer Difo on a tag-up play in the seventh inning with the score tied.

Mark Trumbo also homered for Baltimore, his sixth of the season and third in four games.

Baltimore starter Kevin Gausman gave up two runs and four hits over six innings. The right-hander was lifted with the score tied, leaving him winless in his last seven starts.

WALK THIS WAY

Martinez put Harper in the leadoff spot for the first time since May for this reason: ”The thinking is if he’s hitting up top, he’ll start taking his walks again and it will get him going.” It worked. Harper walked twice.

DAVIS COMEBACK

Struggling Orioles slugger Chris Davis will start Friday night in Atlanta, manager Buck Showalter said. Davis hasn’t played since June 11, when an 0-for-5 outing against Boston dropped his batting average to .150. Since then, he’s been working on his swing and mental approach in an effort to turn around his unproductive season.

ROSTER SHUFFLE

In addition to activating Rasmus from the DL, the Orioles optioned OF Joey Rickard to Triple-A Norfolk and moved LHP Richard Bleier (latissimus tear) to the 60-day DL. Also Dansby Swanson Jersey , DH Pedro Alvarez cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Norfolk.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Orioles: RHP Chris Tillman (back) will next pitch for Class A Delmarva after allowing three runs in two innings for lower Class A Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Nationals: RHP Brandon Kintzler (flexor strain) is close to coming off the DL. Martinez hopes the reliever can pitch an inning on a rehabilitation assignment before being is activated. … Martinez said RHP Jeremy Hellickson (right hamstring strain) will soon go on a rehab assignment and pitch five or six innings.

UP NEXT

Orioles: Alex Cobb (2-9, 7.14 ERA) helps Baltimore open a three-game series on the road Friday night against the Braves, who lead the NL East.

Nationals: Tanner Roark (3-7, 3.87) takes the mound in the opener of a three-game set against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, who entered play Thursday in a second-place tie with Washington.

Game to game

Messagepar chenjian20 » Mar 24 Juil 2018, 09:37

LOS ANGELES — The Denver Nuggets can not only improve their playoff chances Saturday at Staples Center Cheap Oren Burks Jersey , they can also end the Los Angeles Clippers‘ hopes of extending their season.

The Nuggets will take a four-game winning streak into Los Angeles, as the recent run of success has put them on the doorstep of playoff eligibility. They have a 44-35 record, leaving them a half-game behind eighth-place Minnesota, which beat the Lakers Friday night and holds the final playoff spot in the Western Conference at the moment.

Denver does not hold the tie-breaker against the Timberwolves, but the ninth-place Nuggets are only one game behind three teams tied for fifth.

Denver and Minnesota will meet once more, in Minnesota on Wednesday, to conclude the regular season Miguel Rojas Jersey , with the Timberwolves holding a 2-1 advantage in head-to-head games this season if it comes down to that tiebreaker.

A Denver victory Saturday over a Clippers team that has lost three of its last four games would put significant pressure on a Minnesota squad that lost to the Nuggets on Thursday, 100-96.

The Nuggets essentially have been in payoff mode for a week now and have responded with clutch victories. All four victories in their win streak have been by four points or less, with two of them coming in overtime. All have come since March 30.

“We’re not folding,” Nuggets forward/guard Will Barton told the Denver Post. “Good play. Bad play. Guys just come together and we stand in it together. There’s just a lot of togetherness right now, and I love it.”

For the Clippers, they know that a loss Saturday will end their playoff chase. Their hopes were pushed to the brink on Friday night without even playing, as the Pelicans defeated the Suns CJ Wilson Jersey , while the Timberwolves also won.

The Clippers’ chances were put on high alert after they were trounced at Utah on Thursday. Los Angeles is in 10th place in the Western Conference, 2 1/2 games behind Minnesota, with three games to play.

Against Utah on Thursday, the Clippers were never in the game and lost by 22 points. And that was a game in which players knew that a defeat would virtually crush any playoff hopes.

“It was the first game I thought we let go of the rope,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Like, you could see it early. It was disappointing. It happens. It’s life. We have to get over it. I have to watch the film. That was disappointing tonight.”

During a season in which the Clippers were devastated by injuries and watched All-Star Blake Griffin get traded to the Detroit Pistons Antonio Senzatela Jersey , Rivers should get credit for even getting his team this far.

The Clippers are expected to finish the season with four point guards on injured reserve: Patrick Beverley (knee), Avery Bradley (groin), Milos Teodosic (foot) and Jawun Evans (sports hernia). Forward Danilo Gallinari (hand) is day-to-day. Rivers has used 35 different starting lineups.

“It’s been tough,” Rivers said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Game to game, because of the injuries, because of the guys we have left Robinson Chirinos Jersey , you don’t have the luxury of saying, ‘This is your lineup every night.'”

The Nuggets’ recent success has come despite second-leading scorer Gary Harris (knee) missing the last 10 games. He remains day-to-day. Forward Tyler Lydon (ankle) has been out since January.
